2. INSTRUCTIONS

3. WORKING PROGRESS
3.1 Story reading

After reading it, I choose this scene as to translate into a single-page, animated webcomic.

3.2 COMIC COVER

For my Sketches:
First I make a brief sketch about my cover. After getting approval from Mr Hafiz, I did a really brief marking on the sketch to make it easier for me to draw in Illustrator.

For my MOODBOARD:
I choose red & black. I think it's quite iconic and impactful for comic cover.

After having another consultation with Mr Hafiz, I start to draw in Illustrator.

Trace out the 'Sack' & 'Monkey's Paw'

Draw out the brighter side (lighting), and the 200$ label

Adding the 'Cracks' & 'Face' on the sack

Add black background

Add the 'Title' & 'Author Name'

FINAL OUTCOME:

Voilà! This is the final outcome

3.3 ONE-PAGE COMIC
3.3.1 ONE-PAGE COMIC (PNG)
For my Sketches:
First I did a brief sketch, and thanks to Mr Hafiz for checking my transitions, storytelling & panels are smooth enough to proceed.
Next I did a vector version making it easier for me to trace in Illustrator. My whole composition is cleaner, and I add surrealism elements in my composition.
(A bunch of eyes [Panel 1], Wishing shadow monster [Panel 3])

For my MOODBOARD:
I want to create a contrast to make my comic more impactful, I have used 'Blue & Orange/Yellow' before. This time I decided to try a new combo, which is 'Red & Green'

After having another consultation with Mr Hafiz, I start to draw in Illustrator.

After drawing in Illustrator, I start to play with the colors!
(Funfact: At the coloring process I was trying so hard to not make it look 'Christmassy')

Attempt 3

My final attempt and I start working on the font/letters

FINAL OUTCOMES:

3.3.2 ONE-PAGE COMIC (GIF)

The four panels that I have chosen to animate:

Panel 1: Animate those eyes, making them moving crazily.
Panel 3: Animate the action 'WINK'
Panel 6: Animate the 'WISH'
Panel 7: Animate the action 'OPENING the eye'

Create the animation (Art Boards) in Illustrator

Close-up at the panels:

Panel 3:

Panel 6:

Panel 7:

*Unlike the 'WINK,' the reason I only drew two panels for this action is because it's a very quick moment. I wanted to show that he has finally made up his mind and is determined to make his wish.
'ALRIGHT!! (Open eyes) it's time to wish' kind of feeling.

After that, I put these art boards in Photoshop to animate them

Some additional description:
To ensure my project/webcomic looks relevant, there are two things I care about the most: color and art style.

1. Colors:
I use red and green to create contrast and a spooky vibe. For the cover, I also use red. I don't want my comic to look too different from the cover, so I incorporate red in both.
2. Art Style:
I use a vector art style for both the cover and the comic. The reason is the same as with the colors—my goal is to make sure the audience can easily recognize that this cover belongs to this comic.

5. SELF REFLECTION
This project might be my favorite! It's fun, and I’ve never drawn a comic before, so it's a brand new experience for me. The hardest part has probably been planning out the transitions and panels. I want to maintain a smooth flow in the comic while creating interesting panel layouts. That’s why my panels have different sizes and shapes. For the coloring, it’s my first attempt with red and green. It definitely creates a spooky vibe, but I still need to improve my sense of color. Overall, it’s been a great experience, drawing the comic and making the animation.
