1. INSTRUCTIONS
2. PROGRESS
For this we are required to finish 6 task which are:
1. Deconstruct
2. Form and Function
3. Perspective
4. Line Weight
5. Color Attempt
6. Texture Attempt
Below are my sketches and attempt!
DECONSTRUCT EXERCISE:
We are required to deconstruct 3 types of vehicle which are LAND, WATER
& AIR.
I try to find various vehicle type instead of focusing on one specific
type, as I AM not that familiar and barely draw vehicle so it's a great
exercise for me to explore and analyze all kinds of vehicle.
First, I draw the construction line (RED
line) to build out a simple guide for me. After that, I start drawing
the shape of the vehicle (BLUE
line).

FORM & FUNCTION EXERCISE:
Moving on to the next task, which is form & function. In this task we
are required to came out some sketches/silhouette based on 3 function
which are ATTACK, DEFENDER & TRANSPORT.

After reviewing my attempt, sir suggest me to think bold (Out of the box!) and don't forget about the practicality, especially usability. We have to considerate the size of the tyre, the balance of the vehicle etc as it is crucial (Basically everything need to make sense!!).
*Please do consider USABILITY, everyone can draw beautifully, but what
makes it unique, what fulfilled/persuade/interested the user
to use this vehicle is important and this is the features that AI
can't replace.
*Be careful when we want to use a house or any other building on a
vehicle
PERSPECTIVE EXERCISE:
Next! It's perspective exercise.
Perspective is one of the technique that I am terrible with, so this
exercise give me an opportunity (or like force) myself to practice
perspective!!
Similar to the deconstruct exercise, I first draw the guide lines and
draw the shape of the vehicle based on the guide line. When drawing
this, paying attention with the shape is important. The shape distorted
based on the angle, so be I have to be mindful when drawing perspective.
A good perspective is a good based for basically everything, not just
vehicle.
And I also get a chance to draw different angle!! I often observe the
front or the 3/4 angle of an object, but I get to draw the top and the
back side of a vehicle.

LINE WEIGHT EXERCISE:
Moving on to the line weight exercise!!
According to my knowledge, having different size/thickness/weight of
line can give more depth. For example, line on muscle or a less boney
area will be thicker: while places such as joint will be thinner. Same
with vehicle, places that overlapped or have more depth will be
thicker.
(But my understanding is not fully accurate, or perhaps can add more
explanation by sir!)
Sir explanation:
-Not only representing features such as overlapped or deep, it can be used
based on the lighting too. For example, lines at places that has more
light/sunshine will be thinner; while for the darker area lines will be
thicker. As the light strike, we barely see the outline of an object, same
with lines in drawing, applying these observation will make the drawing
better and increase the quality.

COLORING EXERCISE:
Next is the coloring exercise
First, I did a value painting, then I try with various gradient and
color combo. I try to use a contrast color combo to make it more
impactful and vibrant.

TEXTURE EXERCISE:
Lastly, is the texture exercise!!
Based on the vehicle that I did the coloring exercise, I try to put
different texture on it by using overlay in procreate!

3. FINAL OUTCOME
4. FEEDBACK
1. Please do consider USABILITY, everyone can draw beautifully,
but what makes it unique,
what fulfilled/persuade/interested the user
to use this vehicle is important and this is the features
that AI can't replace.
2. Be careful when you want to use a house or any other building
on a vehicle
3. For circular shape, you can use a box to frame it as a guide
before drawing it.
5. REFLECTION
Vehicles are an object/genre that I am SOOOOO not familiar with. I don’t even know how to differentiate cars, and now I have to design cars TT. It is very new and challenging for me to explore this new field, but after doing these exercises, I definitely improved!! Not just in drawing vehicles, these techniques can be applied to various objects (basically everything, I would say).
It is really useful, and Sir Kannan is a veteran teacher. He can spot any mistake and is very sensitive to areas that can be pushed further. Overall, I have a love-hate relationship with these exercises. Are they hard? Yes, because I am not familiar with them. But are they useful? Also yes!! I get to practice, and I know how and what to improve.
