Experience:
This module has been intense and tightly packed. From start to finish, I felt like we’ve done a lot of work. Tasks that used to take us 3 to 4 weeks now have to be completed in just 1 to 2 weeks. Everything is compressed, and there are even more tasks to do in this module. Especially I am overthinker I try to think really brilliant idea but I overcomplicating it and the process become longer because I was thinking too much. This is the hardest part for me as this module require a lot of thinking and brainstorming. But overall, I am satisfied that I have completed this much task, everything is possible huh? haha. In this module everything is consistence, at first we learned layout, followed by observing and making font, we make own wordmark and collateral. All of these exercises is a preparation for the last task, making our own font, make font presentation that require the ability to make nice layout and application that require mockup technique. I have learned A LOT not just on designing but also managing my mindset. Sometimes just don't overthink and make it simple, it will be much smoother.
Observations:
Typography requires more technique than I have imagined. The ability to put those techniques into making it into a poster, a design or even a product matters. Making font is not that easy, there are so MUCH things that we have to consider before even starting. Is it visible when the font is small? Is the readability good enough? Is the weight consistent? SO MUCH just to make a decent font. When doing the task, elements such as color and layout are also important, they really change the whole overall design. It can turn into a very atas (luxurious, well done) piece of work when these design elements are applied well.
Findings:
Make sure you are clear with your main elements, don’t get too distracted by the design making. I often forget about my original intention or lose focus on the main elements I wanted to showcase because I am focusing on the design more than the elements that I wanted to show. Which is bad, design is just a tool to help emphasize or showcase your original work. If the original work gets covered up by the design, then what’s the point?
