PRE-PRODUCTION
This project required us to develop a location based on the story from a game/movie/cartoon. Before starting I explore a bit & finding the game that I am interested.
In the end, I choose the game "Palia". It's a MMO game that allows player to start an adventure follow with crafting and exploring in the world.
FEATURES:
1. Default NPC's & location
-NPC with different occupation allows player to build connection with the NPC's. It allows players to explore more places and trade/receive different item
-Different stores in the town allows player to buy and trade
2. Pre-Industrial Society Background
-This game is based on the pre-industrial society, so no transportation (mostly walking) and technology (such as phone). This game focus on activities such as crafting, farming, trading etc
3. Cultures
-Magic is a subtle elements in the world (unlike some games that magic act as a technology for them).
-However, tribal fantasy and religion (Ruins & Tradition) is one of the features in this game
-Heavily influenced by Mediterranean culture/ European countryside (architecture, farming lifestyle)
After some research & analyze, I decided to focus on creating a NPC with occupation that didn't exist in this world. Based on the NPC's occupation, I will create a new place for my NPC (it might be him/her working space, workshop, house etc)
IDEATION:
1. Mapmaker:
LOCATION:
-Map making workshop in the village
WHY?
-In this huge world having a map is an essential for the villager and explorer (player). However, there is some places such as ruin that is not in the default map, which makes the explorer harder to find the ruin that contains special creatures & item. Explorer can trade or finish a mission by the mapmaker to get various map as a reward.
2. Pharmacist/Herbalist:
LOCATION:
-Traditional Pharmacy in the village (maybe close to forest, like a witch shelter)
WHY?
-A healer is consider an important role in a village and Palia have various special creatures & plants that can be used as herbs or material for medicine (refer to traditional Chinese medicine). Explorer can buy herbs/medicine that allows them to receive special abilities (such as swiftness) when they need (For example, hunting animals in swiftness will be more convenient). Explorer can trade or request (collect the material that suggested by pharmacist) pharmacist to create the medicine that they want.
3. Collector:
LOCATION:
-Ruins in the world
-Collectors display in the village
WHY?
-To achieve some special items & material, it requires explorer having the perfect timing, items & tools. It might be time consuming for the explorer if they are in a urgent. Collector will be an option for them to receive the item/material quickly by trading with them.
FLOW:
1. At a certain level/mission the explorer (player) have to get a specific rare material (the name)
2. To get that the explorer have to trade with the collector
3. Throwback to how the collector collect the rare materials (I WILL BE DOING THIS AS MY PROJECT)
