REFLECTION

Experience:
It’s my first semester and my first year at Taylor. When choosing this course, I didn’t expect my first class to be typography. However, after learning it, I realized that this subject is definitely essential. We use letters and fonts a lot in design, such as in posters, and even comics contain text. Taking a typography class has definitely improved my appreciation for fonts. I’m now more familiar with concepts like kerning, leading, and other typographic details, which makes me more mindful when reading a sentence.

*The moment I realized typography had trained me well was when I started to focus on signboards, logos, and even road signs.

This has been a fun class for me. Of course, I struggled with some of the tasks, but the satisfaction and happiness I felt after completing them were undeniable. I’d like to thank Mr. Vinod for providing us with those valuable lecture videos and materials, and Mr. Max for giving us such detailed consultations and useful advice.

Observations:
Referring to my experiences, our lives are full of typography. It is so common that we often fail to notice how important it is.

Findings:
A designer skilled in typography will make it easier for the audience to read.
(For example:
Bad Kerning & Leading: If the sentence is too cramped or too spaced out, it becomes hard to read or uncomfortable to look at.)

Typography offers room for experimentation with various elements:
*It can blend old-school classics with fresh, modern trends.
*You can incorporate shapes like circles (which are more bubbly) or squares (which are more formal), etc.
